The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) is the African Union’s specialized agency for capacity development. Established in 1991, ACBF has more than three decades of experience strengthening the human and institutional capacities needed to advance Africa’s development priorities.
From 12 founding countries, ACBF has grown to a network of 40 member states, working with governments, public institutions, regional and continental bodies, think tanks, development partners and other stakeholders across Africa. Through its programs, knowledge and strategic partnerships, ACBF strengthens institutions and equips leaders and professionals with the skills, tools and knowledge needed to improve policy implementation and advance sustainable development.
Over the years, ACBF has trained more than 100,000 public officials, many of whom have held key positions in Ministries of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, as well as Central Banks. The Foundation has also established a continent-wide network of more than 50 African think tanks, supporting evidence-based policymaking, policy research and analysis, and stronger economic governance.
ACBF’s work contributes to the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with the broader ambition of building stronger, more effective and resilient African institutions.
